Outreach in Inishowen, Co. Donegal

The arrival of three students from the Whitefield College of the Bible on a two-week evangelistic programme allowed us to complete a stage in the Consider Christ project in Co. Donegal that we were unable to do in October 2010.

Then, the Inishowen penisula had been impossible to reach from our base in Rossknowlagh due to both distance and extreme weather conditions.

However, the central day in book our weeks of evangelism with the students (Wednesday 7 and Wednesday 14 September) was set aside for the purpose of taking the Gospel to Inishowen.

Thousands of homes received our specially designed 'Consider Christ' literature – one large tract (#2) based on the words of Isaiah 55, and the smaller leaflet, 'It's Time To Turn.'

Please pray for the spiritual seed that has been sown in this area; we desperately need our Lord to produce a harvest of souls.

Over the summer period, the web domain "ConsiderChrist.com" became available.

We have been using "ConsiderChrist.info" for the initial stages in the Campaign.

The advantage of having "ConsiderChrist.com" is obvious.

The whole process was rather complex and drawn-out, and it is a testament to the perseverance of Stephen Hogg (Vision Solutions NI) and to the grace of God that we managed to secure this URL.

May the Lord be pleased to use it to expand His kingdom and exalt His Person and Work.

Outreach in Dublin

On Saturday 29th January, an outreach team of five young people travelled to Dublin via the train.  

Three of us met in Belfast and a further two joined us on the train at Portadown.  The team comprised Aaron Fitzsimons, Andrew Simpson, Rachel Crawford, Henry Anderson and Clive Keys.

We arrived in Dublin just after nine o’clock. First, we had a look around for some suitable open-air locations. Then, we ate breakfast and headed out to hold the first of four open-air services.

The open-airs consisted of 'Bible Shots' (each team member reading a verse of scripture which God has used to speak to them or one that tells a simple Gospel truth) and then either Aaron or Andrew preaching a short, yet direct Gospel message. During the preaching a few team members would hand out tracts.

Henry led one of the meetings and gave his testimony at another, while Rachel and Clive also gave their testimonies, telling of God's saving grace in their lives!  We believe each of these, were blessing to the hearts of some lost soul passing by!

“I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase” (1 Corinthians 3:6).

We pray that the planting, the watering and God speaking will prove to have been fulfilled on Saturday!

As a team and as individuals we did have to opportunity of speaking one-to-one with a number of people.

• God blessed Clive with the opportunity of witnessing to a man called Mark from England. He has a background of drug abuse, but there and then, during our first open air he gave his life to the Lord! We ask you to pray for this man that he would to grow in Christ, and also for Clive as he remains in contact with him.

• We also came across a Muslim called Owen. He stood and listened to what had been said during one of the open airs and, showing interest in what had been said, came over to ask more.
He was a young Irish man that claims to have tried many different religions and belief systems, ranging from Baptist to Mormonism. He also mentioned that he had read the 'Consider Christ' tracts from the leaflet drop that took place in Autumn last year!

A long conversation followed, one which took the form of a debate. Personally, after speaking with Owen, the confidence I have in Christ has not only stood fast, but it has been strengthened by the lack of evidence he showed for this lost faith.

• One other older man, Thomas, who I had the chance to engage in conversation with, wanted to understand what we preached - seeking knowledge however does not save a man. He had many problems with the Catholic Church which he belonged to, but those problems were set alongside problems he had with Protestant churches. Unfortunately his view of Protestantism has most likely been tainted by the teachings and actions of unbiblical 'so called' Protestant churches.
He seemed eager to know more, so I directed him to www.sermonaudio.com where he will be able to hear the true, faithful word of God being preached!

At times, the government acted as a deterrent to the Word when we were told, that we would be fined if we continued to evangelise through the handing out of leaflets!

In saying that, the overall response to the Gospel tracts given out was indifferent. Some took and kept them (possibly in fear of a €100 fine). However, others with the fine in view didn't litter the streets, but unfortunately filled the bins!

God's work has its ups and downs, we can only pray that those who kept the word will read it, and that God would speak to them and convict them of their sins!

The last open air was held at about 4:00pm and after a cup of coffee and a long-awaited rest we made our way back to the train station for 9.00pm.  The journey home was expected to be quick, however, due to bomb scares in the North we experienced a short delay and a detour, causing us to get off the train in Newry and travel back to Belfast on a bus!

We would ask you to continually pray for the people of the South of Ireland as this campaign to win lost souls continues! Pray especially for the individuals mentioned in this short report.

We can and must pray, but when given the opportunity, let us also DO!  

 “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also” (James 2:26).

Detailed Report on Monaghan, Cavan & Louth Outreach

Fifteen people from various Free Presbyterian Churches made their way to the Four Seasons Hotel in Monaghan on the evening of Friday the 26th of November.

We were assembled together with the united objective of bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the border counties, specifically to the more major towns of Counties Monaghan, Cavan and Louth.

Throughout the weekend the fellowship was excellent and we certainly felt the nearness of God’s presence, particularly in a number of meetings together in the hotel for prayer and for meditation upon the Word of God. We can testify of the Lord’s goodness in help given throughout the weekend and particularly on the Saturday which was the main day of work.

In order to cover more ground, the team was divided in two with a number working in Monaghan town and travelling on to Cavan town and the rest working in Dundalk and then Drogheda.

• The group working in Monaghan, led by Rev David McLaughlin and Rev Larry Power, was joined by a number of believers from our Clogher Valley congregation including Rev Peter McIntyre and began the day with some door-to-door work in a couple of estates in and around Monaghan town before conducting an open-air service outside the courthouse in the town at which a number of gospel verses were quoted and Rev McLaughlin preached the Word whilst a number gave out the “Consider Christ” gospel tracts. One man was spoken to who seemed to show interest in the message proclaimed.

Moving into Cavan, the group then used the same routine of carrying out some door-to-door work in the area before returning to the town centre for another open-air which followed a similar format at which Rev McIntyre preached Christ to those who were nearby. This open air coincided with the switching on of the town’s Christmas lights and so there were a good number of people in the town able to hear the preaching of the gospel.

• The other group, led by Rev Smith, journeyed to Dundalk in the morning and were joined by around 6 others who had driven down for the day’s efforts. In Dundalk we had the opportunity to conduct an open-air at which two individuals gave a brief word of testimony as to the workings of the Lord in their lives, a number of others quoted a selection of verses from the bible before Rev Smith brought a message concerning Jesus Christ and the healing of the palsied man focussing particularly on those words “Son, thy sins be forgiven thee” (Mark 2:5). Although the town was relatively quiet, it was encouraging to see a number of people keenly listening from their cars as well as a few people who listened for short periods throughout.

One young man listened intently to the whole service and having spoken to a number of the team, told one of us that our efforts would not be in vain. Hearing that young man’s story is heartbreaking, yet we rejoice that if Christ is to save him, his life will turn in an instant from tragedy to triumph, certainly at least in relation to his soul.

Following the open air in Dundalk, the group made their way to Drogheda where we spent some time doing some door-to-door work in one of the estates before making our way back to the hotel in Monaghan.

One observation from speaking to people on the doors throughout all the towns targeted was that whilst in Northern Ireland the average person may not even confess to believing in a god, many in the Republic clearly believe in God, the challenge is to present the simplicity of the gospel to them that “being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1).

The group enjoyed fellowship with the believers in Coragarry Free Presbyterian Church in Drum, and special thanks must go to the ladies of the congregation for providing a tasty lunch of soups, breads and a variety of deserts. It was a joy to have prolonged fellowship with the congregation throughout the afternoon before making our way home.

It is fair to say that the weather limited us in some regards as many of the roads were covered in ice, and so slowed down our travels, yet we thank the Lord for safety in transport. We thank the Lord for wisdom in speaking to people of Christ, for power given in the preaching of His word and especially for the sense of His presence throughout. We trust that He will use these small efforts made over the weekend for His own glory, and that even in time to come, the seed sown will be reaped in the extension of Christ’s kingdom into the Republic of Ireland.

Consider Christ to Feature on Anniversary DVD

After a little 'layoff,' a little snippet of news from 'Consider Christ' to relay today.

The Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster is currently producing a DVD to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the denomination.

The 'Consider Christ' project is set to feature within it.

Today, James McClelland took some footage of me giving a brief overview of the Campaign, including its origin and operation.

Hopefully we'll be able to say ... "Check this space" ... again soon!

Small Update to Website

Incredible Outreach Opportunity

The opportunity to engage in open-air evangelism over the course of the Outreach Weekend was severely curtailed by the weather, diverting us from town centres to going door-to-door.

However, open-air meetings were conducted in Letterkenny, Donegal Town and Ballybofey (Co. Donegal) and in Dundalk and Drogheda (Co. Louth).

While each meeting underlined the providence and protection of God, none did more so than the opportunity that arose in Ballybofey.

The 15 people in this outreach group, making their way home to Co. Tyrone and Co. Londonderry, were delayed in leaving their base in Rossknowlagh through the length of time it took to clear the snow and ice from cars.

However, when we arrived in Ballybofey, drawing up in the carpark beside the famous McElhinney's store, we noticed a lorry that had been in use as a makeshift stage. A couple of men were setting up a sound system ... and we wondered ..... .

On asking permission to use the stage for a short Gospel service, we were directed to the office of the 'events manager,' who promptly agreed that we could make use of the stage. She explained that they had booked a brass band to perform during the time slot in which we had appeared; the band had been in contact to say that it would not be able to make it through the snow. Therefore 2o minutes were made available to us.

We commenced by singing, 'Would You Be Free From Your Burden of Sin, There's Power in the Blood,' gave our version (that's being kind to us!) of a few Christmas hymns, after which Rev. Jonathan Creane preached.

As we climbed down from the platform, a sense that God alone had opened this door for us was felt by all. We earnestly pray that our joy on earth will be combined with joy in heaven over a sinner in Ballybofey who may have been led to that repentance that day.

Brief Report on Outreach Weekend, 26-28 November

On Friday 26 November, two groups of volunteers, both young and old, converged on Rossknowlagh, Co Donegal, and Monaghan Town - our bases for outreach into the 5 Border Counties.

The plan was to present the Gospel under the 'Consider Christ' banner over the course of the next two days.

Though the weather was most unfavourable, we are delighted to report that open-air meetings were conducted in a variety of locations, including Dundalk, Drogheda, Letterkenny, Donegal Town and Ballybofey.

1000s of pieces of Gospel Literature were distributed, including copies of:

(i) the 2nd Tract that was produced for the use of the Consider Christ Campaign,

(ii) a new, short Tract on the subject of Repentance,

(iii) and DVDs containing short Gospel addresses (each address is 2-5 minutes in length).

The area covered was vast - and though it was never going to be possible to engage in a blanket coverage of the 5 Border Counties (the postal drop had done this), still the message of the Gospel was carried from Dunfanaghy on Co. Donegal's 'Atlantic Coast', right down to Sligo; through to Carrick-on-Shannon in south Leitrim; over to Monaghan and Cavan towns; and right across to the East coast in the form of Dundalk and Drogheda.

We are immensely grateful to the 60+ people who gave of their time and talents to be involved in this Outreach (including 10 ministers), and to God's people who earnestly prayed for the success of this project.

It was heartening to notice the many 'Consider Christ' billboards that were on display in all the major towns and along the main routes through these Counties; also to discover the people readily identified the 'Consider Christ' logo when approached in the street - some immediately said, "Oh, we got some of this material in the post."

A couple of journalists, (one of whom publishes a magazine for Irish speaking people), have since been in contact, asking for further details of this Campaign - and keen to publish articles on our Outreach efforts among the people of the Border Counties.

We continue to pray that the Lord alone will have been glorified through these efforts; that our hearts will be drawn to Consider Him more, and that many unconverted person will both Consider and Come to Christ.

A NEW Smaller Tract for our Outreach Portfolio

I am quite excited to be able to tell you about a NEW tract that is now 'on the drawing board' for use in the Consider Christ Outreach into the Border Counties.

Conscious of the fact that not everyone will completely read a tract that contains 900 words (Tract #2 in the Campaign) - thankfully some will! - we are also arranging to take a small DL leaflet on the subject of Repentance:

- one side features a thought-provoking graphic designed by Jason Ramasami (see above);

- the other side contains the following relevant Scriptures:

TIME TO TURN

• The first line of the first sermon that Jesus preached in public contained the command, “Repent ye, and believe the gospel” (Mark 1:14-15).

• When those in the crowd to whom Peter preached were convinced by the gospel message, they asked him what they should do, and he counselled, “Repent.” Preaching the very next day, the same Apostle declared, “Repent ye therefore, and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 2:38; 3:19).

• As he reached the crux of his message on Mars’ Hill, Athens, the apostle Paul told his hearers that God, “now commandeth all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30). To press home the urgency of this repentance, Paul explained, “Because God hath appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in righteousness by that Man [Jesus] whom He hath ordained” (Acts 17:31).

Today ... it is Time for you to Turn. Turn from Sin, and Turn to the Saviour.

You cannot repent too soon, because you do not know how soon it may be too late.

Tract #2 On The Drawing Board!

The second tract for use in personal outreach in the Second Phase of the Consider Christ Campaign was finalised today.

It should be printed towards the beginning of next week and will therefore be available for distribution in major towns belonging to the Five Border Counties next weekend.

Gospel Outreach DVD

12 noon was the start time for the production of a DVD to be used on Gospel Outreach in the Consider Christ Campaign.

It is hoped that this DVD will be ready for distribution when outreach teams converge on Monaghan Town and Rossknowlagh on the weekend of 26-28 November 2010.

Revs. Ian Brown, David McLaughlin, Robert Ormerod and David Smith each took turns at occupying 'the hot seat' to record messages for use on the DVD. (Rev. Ron Johnstone had been filmed at the weekend).

Initially, the benchmark had been set at 500-800 words ... after the 'first take' some trimming was deemed necessary.

The 'finished products' last between 1 min 54 sec and 5 min 31 sec..

Pray For The Success Of The Gospel

Prayer is one of the best and most powerful means of helping forward the cause of Christ in the world.

It is a means within the reach of all who have the Spirit of adoption.

Not all believers have money to give to missions. Very few have great intellectual gifts, or extensive influence among men.

But all believers can pray for the success of the Gospel, and they ought to pray for it daily.

Many and marvellous are the answers to prayer which are recorded for our learning in the Bible.

“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” (James 5:16).

Tracts in Circulation in Co Donegal

I was much encouraged at our Prayer Meeting tonight to discover that the 'Consider Christ' tracts are definitely going out across Donegal.

People in attendance have properties in Buncrana, Fahan, and Muff – and each have received their tracts!

This is terrific news - and shows that An Post is fulfilling their part of our contract.

Please keep much in prayer that the Gospel seed that is being sowed will result in an abundant spiritual harvest.

Billboard Tweaks in Preparation for 5 County Coverage

The 48-sheet Billboard design we used in last year's campaign in Northern Ireland are again being pressed into service as part of our outreach into the Five Border Counties.

During advertising cycles 23, 24 & 25, 20 Billboards will be on display.

We have managed to negotiate a much reduced fee for the billboards - and then obtained further value by doubling the time over which they will appear for a little extra cost. It's not quite a 2-for-the-price-of-1 deal, ... but it's close!

The total cost for the boards is £9,517.00.

Please pray that each will be an effective wayside messenger, pointing souls to the only Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Christ Alone is All!

There are multitudes of baptized men and women who profess to honour Christ, but in reality do Him great dishonour.

They give Christ a certain place in their system of religion, but not the place which God intended Him to fill.

Christ alone is not “all in all” to their souls.

No!

It is either Christ and the Church, or Christ and the sacraments, or Christ and His ordained ministers, or Christ and their own repentance, or Christ and their own goodness, or Christ and their own prayers, or Christ and their own sincerity and charity, on which they practically rest their souls.

If any reader of this paper is a Christian of this kind, I warn him also plainly, that his religion is an offence to God. You are changing God’s plan of salvation into a plan of your own devising. You are in effect deposing Christ from His throne, by giving the glory due to Him to another.

200,000 Tracts Leave For Dublin Depot

The Consider Christ tracts for use in the door-to-door delivery by An Post left the main offices of Every Home Crusade at 4.30 this afternoon en route to Dublin.

This represented another herculean effort on the part of the staff of EHC.

Not only were they required to print and fold 200,000 tri-fold leaflets, they also were tasked with bundling them in 100s, boxing them in 1000s and sorting out surpluses for the various postal zones in the Counties of Donegal, Leitrim, Cavan, Monaghan and Louth!

We cannot thank them enough - and earnestly pray that their efforts will result in a bountiful spiritual harvest!

Creeping Towards The Target

Christ “lifted up” and put to shame on Calvary is the ladder by which Christians “enter into the holiest,” and are at length landed in glory.

• It is true that we are sinners–but Christ has suffered for us.

• It is true that we deserve death–but Christ has died for us.

• It is true that we are guilty debtors–but Christ has paid our debts with His own blood.

This is the real Gospel! This is the good news!

THE GOSPEL

The Gospel is God’s message to us. It is “good news” because it addresses the most serious problem we will ever have to face. The problem is that we will stand before God at the end of our life. He is holy and just, and will judge us against His perfect standard. However, not only are we far from perfect, we are all full of sin.

The good news of the Gospel is that Jesus Christ lived a life of complete obedience to God, keeping the law and doing no sin. And not only did He live that pure life, He offered Himself as a perfect sacrifice or substitute on the Cross to satisfy God’s justice. He then rose from the dead – the guarantee that He had paid the penalty for our sin and satisfied His Father.

Our own efforts cannot satisfy God and earn His salvation. Nor can any mixture of religion and works. It is only when we turn from our sin and trust in Christ alone, by faith alone, that we are freely forgiven. This is the Gospel - the Good News!

Billboards between Dundalk and Drogheda

Mindful of the fact that some of the homes to which we are sending literature use Gaelic as their first language, a short summary of 'The Gospel' is presently being translated by a fluent Irish speaker.

I received this update from her yesterday:

"I'm working on the translation - as with any language, a completely direct translation isn't possible or it won't make sense.

(Have you ever read those hilarious operating instructions translated from Chinese?)

Hopefully it shouldn't be too long more.

I'll be testing it on a few Irish speaking friends to make sure it's okay.

Right now, I'm pretty excited about receiving this translation ..... even though I won't be able to decipher a single word of it!

What Is The Gospel?

A fair portion of today was spent working on a short summary statement of what the Gospel really is. Rev. Timothy Nelson was 'called in' to provide the finishing touches and, as ever, performed an excellent job!

It is envisaged that this statement will appear on the 'back cover' of the tract that will be delivered into every home in the 5 Border Counties. It will appear in both English and Irish languages, keeping in mind the fact that parts of Co. Donegal in particular still use Irish as their first language.

WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?

“The Gospel is called the “good news” because it addresses the most serious problem that faces us as human beings. That problem arises because God is holy and just, and we are not. But at the end of life, it is before this just and holy God we must stand – to be judged. And we will be judged against His standard. God demands absolute conformity to His perfect law. But we are sinful and cannot provide this.

Hundreds of Balloons with John 14:6 on Display

Mission accomplished!

Hundreds of balloons with the full text of John 14:6 and bearing the message, "Consider Christ" were distributed at the Apprentice Boys Parade in Londonderry this afternoon.

Reception was excellent!

On many occasions not only children, but mothers and fathers also, came running after us asking for more balloons as we walked through the crowd.

It was immensely satisfying to see the multi-coloured balloons inflated and proclaiming this wonderful message along the route of the parade. No doubt many balloons will be taken home with the children – a mobile message that Christ is exclusively the Saviour of sinners.

It is most encouraging to note that £40,000 has now been donated to the 'Consider Christ' project for the Border Counties.

This is especially commendable when we remember that this fund is building over the period when the church programme is usually at its most irregular - the summer months.

We are further encouraged to hear that churches are lifting this aspect of the work before the Lord in earnest prayer. This is vital if Christ is to be honoured in Phase 2 of this Outreach.

'Consider Christ' Balloons on Order!

As part of our Outreach at the 2009 Apprentice Boys' Parade in Londonderry, Trudy Keys brought a bag of balloons with Scripture texts printed on them for distribution among the children who were standing by waiting for the parade.

These went down a treat!

Imagine being able to look down the line we had travelled - and balloons with Bible verses on them beginning to appear all along the parade route!!

Our thought was to buy a quantity of similar balloons for outreach at the Parade this year. However, the previous supplier had nothing other than Christmas themed balloons, or 'Smile, Jesus Loves You!' left. The quantities were also very small.

So .....

... time for a little research!

Stephen Cassells (Vision Solutions NI) phoned at a most appropriate moment; put me in contact with a Belfast printer/supplier; now I am awaiting delivery of 500 balloons (with more to come!) with the 'Consider Christ' logo on them and the full text of John 14:6 printed on them.

Telling Others About Christ

I received this encouraging quote in my emails today. It is taken from the writings of Bishop J.C. Ryle:

If we have anything to tell others about Christ, let us resolve to tell it. Let us not be silent, if we have found peace and rest in the Gospel.

Let us speak to our relations, friends, families and neighbours, according as we have opportunity, and tell them what the Lord has done for our souls.

All are not called to be ministers. All are not intended to preach.

But all can walk in the steps of the man of whom we have been reading, and in the steps of Andrew, and Philip, and the Samaritan woman (John 1:41, 45; 4:29).

Happy is he who is not ashamed to say to others, “Come and hear what the Lord has done for my soul” (Psalm. 66:16).

Edging Closer To Target

Are We Doing What We Can For Jesus?

With the Rich in His Death

"And He made His grave with the wicked, and with the rich in His death; because He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth." (Isaiah 53:9)

It is generally recognized that the amazing 53rd chapter of Isaiah, written over 500 years earlier, is the most explicit and complete exposition of the substitutionary suffering and death of the Lord Jesus Christ in all the Bible, including even the New Testament accounts.

And this prophecy that His death and burial would be with both the "wicked, and with the rich" is surely one of the most remarkable.

How could such a prediction possibly come to pass?

Yet it did!

Unjustly condemned, not for any violent or deceitful acts, but only for telling the truth, Jesus was crucified between two wicked criminals, yet He was buried in a garden tomb lovingly built by a rich member of the council that had condemned Him to death.

Furthermore, that elaborate tomb had almost certainly been personally designed and built ahead of time by Joseph in specific anticipation of using it to fulfill Isaiah’s prophecy.

That wealthy owner of the tomb lived in Arimathea and would never have built a tomb for himself or his family near Calvary, the place of crucifixion. But he and a friend on the council (Nicodemus) had somehow come to believe in Jesus and His gospel and decided they were the ones that should render this service.

Perhaps, as they looked up at the body of the Lord on the cross just before removing it for burial, they remembered His words to Nicodemus three years earlier, when He had said: "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:14-15).

They had indeed believed, no doubt suffering severe loss, but they had done what they could for Christ.

Ignited By Contact With Christ!

Elton Trueblood, the Quaker scholar, once compared evangelism to fire.

Evangelism occurs, he said, when Christians are so ignited by their contact with Christ that they in turn set other fires.

It is easy to determine when something is aflame. It ignites other material. Any fire that does not spread will eventually go out.

A church without evangelism is a contradiction in terms, just as fire that does not burn is a contradiction.

By Friday, 4 June 2010, £25,000+ was in the fund.

We praise God for the generous donations from churches across the province of Ulster in order to take the message of the Gospel into the counties of Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Cavan and Louth.

More Men Under The Bright Lights!

Monday, 24 and Thursday, 27 May were key dates for the filming of a short DVD production for the Second Phase of our 'Consider Christ' Campaign.

I outlined the various stages that are envisaged for this campaign during the first 'shoot' on Monday. Revs. Robert Ormerod, David Smith and Jonathan Creane duly appeared on Thursday afternoon to make their contributions.

It must be said that none of us claim to be experts in the field; in fact we are most uncomfortable under the bright lights. However, if we are calling on people again this year to break out of their comfort zone and, 'Do Something More For God,' we reckoned it would only be fair that we should put ourselves in front of the camera in an effort to raise awareness about our new project.

During our recent Week of Meetings in Londonderry on 'Teachings From The Tabernacle,' the Moderator of our Presbytery, Dr. Ron Johnstone, agreed to do an interview on behalf of the 'Consider Christ' campaign.

Today, I gave an overview of our plan of action for this September 2010 when we intend to take the Gospel into the 5 Border Counties of Donegal, Leitrim, Cavan, Monaghan and Lough.

The Planning Stages

Present at our second planning meeting for the 'Consider Christ Campaign – Border Counties' on Tuesday, 18 May 2010, at Dungannon were members of the original subcommittee, plus our two ministers in the South of Ireland, Rev. Larry Power (Coragarry, Co Monaghan) and Rev. Jonathan Creane (Convoy, Co Donegal).

The agenda was full - ranging from a geography lesson on the main towns in each of the 5 counties we have targeted for our Crusade, through the possiblity of placing adverts in local newspapers, and a Outreach Programme that would come 'hot on the heels' of the advertising aspects of the Campaign.

'Consider Christ' Campaign for Border Counties

During the course of the ‘Consider Christ’ Campaign in Northern Ireland, I received several ‘Macedonian Calls’ from our ministers who are labouring in the South of Ireland to, “Come over and help us.”

Had sufficient funds been available at that time, we would have been delighted to do so.

At the most recent meeting of the Government & Morals Committee, a decision was taken to bring a fresh proposal to Presbytery in order to take the ‘Consider Christ’ Campaign forward to a new stage and so carry the message of grace beyond our borders.

Our desire is to take the Gospel to all five border counties, including:

County Population (2006)

Donegal 146,956

Monaghan 55,816

Cavan 63,961

Louth 110,894

Leitrim 28,950

This represents a total population of 406,577 people.

I have made contact with both Advertising Companies that helped us with the ‘Consider Christ’ Campaign in Northern Ireland. They have stated that advertising costs in the South of Ireland are much higher than in Northern Ireland, but assured me that they have a portfolio of both billboards (large 48-sheet size) and shoplites (smaller 6-sheet boards) that could be used by us in any proposed Campaign.

Revs. Jonathan Creane and Larry Power have made enquiries re delivering a Gospel tract to every home by means of a postal drop. We were charged £39 per 1000 leaflets through Royal Mail; for Co. Donegal, the price is a rather hefty 113 Euros per 1000. (Thankfully the price is lower for the other four counties).

Our thought is that an extensive Campaign could be conducted in these five border counties if we were able to raise the sum of 50,000 euros.

This would include:

• Postal Drop (the main 'Consider Christ' tract being taken to every home in these five counties);

• 15 Billboards (3 main towns in each county - and 1 billboard in each of those towns);

• Regional Rallies (a Gospel Rally in each of the counties).

The price of this project is brought into perspective when we consider that the Gospel can be brought to each person in these five border counties for an outlay that amounts to little more than 10 cents per person.

Given the fact that the faith of the Roman Catholic population has been rocked to its foundations due to the various clerical scandals that have brought untold disgrace - and taking ‘soundings’ from our brethren who have engaged in evangelism at recent Ploughing Championships, it is our conviction that the South of Ireland is now a field, “white already unto harvest.”

This presents us with further opportunity to, “Do Something More For God.”

Presbytery has now approved the extension of the ‘Consider Christ’ Campaign to the five border counties in principle: whether we will be able to realise the full extent of this project depends on raising the necessary finance.

Do pray with us that the funds will be obtained for this project - that the Lord would touch people's hearts to give generously.

Big News About To Break!

After another period of relative inactivity, a big news story about the 'Consider Christ' Campaign is now on the horizon.

All will be revealed within the next few days ..... it's worth staying tuned for this one!

Meantime, buses bearing our adverts still comb the country: Newtownards, Portrush and Portstewart are venues where these buses have been spotted within the last few days.

After so long a time ...

... this blog is up and running again!!

The reason: just when we thought the 'Doing Something More For God' Campaign was all but over, buses that still comb the country carrying the message of John 14:6 convince us there is still mileage in this crusade!

Reports have flooded in from all parts of the country this week, reminding me that the buses are still on the move. Apparently, 40% of our original adverts remain in place (initially we placed 1000+ ads on these buses).

Plus, some of the shoplites (mini-billboards) remain in position.

This is value for money, to be sure!!

Further developments are sure to follow ... .

'Consider Christ' Tract #3 Now Ready!

I'm not long home from a whirlwind tour of the province, having collected Tract#3 in the 'Consider Christ' series and dropped copies off at various centres so that these tracts can be distributed to the churches who placed orders for them.

Vision Solutions NI and Every Home Crusade have done tremendous jobs on the tract; the colours have appeared exactly as intended – vibrant reds!

'Consider Christ' Tracts – Christmas Edition

As a further extension of our 'Consider Christ' Campaign, a third tract will be coming off the presses of our printers on Monday morning.

This tract is a Christmas version.

We are mindful of the facts that:

• Many churches operate an outreach programme throughout the year, and often look for something that is themed for Christmas – in Londonderry, we go over into our city centre on the Saturday / Sunday before Christmas and have found that people are very receptive at this time of year;

• It will breathe fresh life into the ‘Consider Christ’ Campaign (complementing the bus adverts that are still going strong) - and helps keep the Lord Jesus Christ in the minds of the people;

• It can be used by our people who may wish to circulate the tracts in their own neighbourhoods / place them inside Christmas cards / etc..

Today I have been thinking over a challenge from the former Bishop of Liverpool, J.C. Ryle:

"Let us cleave to Christ more closely,

Consider Christ 'Christmas Tract' On Drawing Board

For the past 5 years, an outreach team from Londonderry FPC has gone onto the Cityside on the Lord's Day before Christmas Day to hand out thousands of Gospel Tracts.

I was working on a new Gospel tract today with a view to getting it published for use on our outreach this year.

Seems a shame not to make it an extension to our 'Consider Christ' Campaign – and make a further concentrated attempt at impacting our city for God.

Meeting With CBS Outdoor Rep (Bus Ad Man)

Last Thursday I was eventually able to meet up with Jeff Smith again, the man responsible for organising the bus and shoplite advertising for the 'Consider Christ' Campaign.

He works for CBS Outdoor - with whom we signed a contract this Spring to supply:

• 8 billboards in Belfast,

• 60 shoplites across the country,

• 1000+ ads inside and outside buses that run under the Translink banner.

He was checking that we were satisfied with the coverage achieved by the Campaign. To say the least, we are delighted with it ... and especially when messages are coming in each day from people who are still seeing the 'Consider Christ' adverts on the buses!

For example:

• Last Thursday evening, 10 buses were spotted by one person in central Belfast;

• On Saturday, 3 buses were seen in Belfast, parked by the side of the road.

• Other reports have come in from various parts of the country, confirming that the bus campaign is still going strong!

Little Is Much When God Is In It!

When Rev M R Watkinson wrote to a government official in 1861, he could not have envisaged the repercussions!

Watkinson wrote, “I have felt our national shame in disowning God as not the least of our present national disasters.”

Several ministers of the Gospel were concerned that the nation was failing to recognise belief and dependence upon God and feared that history would deem that heathenism prevailed.

It was the action of the Pennsylvanian pastor that began a process that is now enshrined in American law. He suggested that every coin in the land should testify to their trust in God. His proposal was enthusiastically received and from 1864 every coin from the humble cent to a 1000 dollar note, which was introduced in 1966, has borne the motto, “In God we trust.”

More than that, President Dwight D Eisenhower authorised legislation that the motto of the United States of America would forever be, “In God we trust.”

If we all did something more for God with the same passion as Watkinson only eternity will reveal the consequences.

'Consider Christ' Getting Under Atheist's Skin!

Judging by a comment made by humanist spokesman Brian McClinton, the 'Consider Christ' Campaign has achieved much more publicity than he would have liked.

The British Humanist Association is advertising on billboards in each of the UK's capital cities: London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast.

This promotion follows the atheist bus campaign run throughout Great Britain earlier this year when they re-broadcast the devil's lie: 'There is probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.'

Their new ad on Great Victoria Street, Belfast (NI's first humanist advertising campaign) features a photo of a girl and the slogan: "Please don't label me." It includes watermarks saying "Catholic child," and "Atheist child."

However, revealing his frustration at the success of the 'Consider Christ' Campaign, Mr McClinton added that the poster provided, "opposition to the near ubiquitous 'Consider Christ' ads that are currently covering most of our Translink buses."

When she read the article about the atheist ads on the BBC website, Joy Ovadal (Wisconsin, USA), asked, "I know that a lot of the buses do still have the Consider Christ ads, but would it be most of the Translink buses . . . or is the campaign just really getting to the humanists?!"

I responded, "It's certainly getting under their skin.

We placed 1000+ adverts on the buses (inside and outside) across the country .... and they are still going strong. I still get reports of multiple sightings of them, especially round Belfast, on a daily basis.

Some have commented along the lines, "Saw 4 buses while sitting in a restaurant today ... well, it may have been 2 buses going up, and then coming back down the street ... ."

I LOVE the term this atheist is using though: "the near ubiquitous 'Consider Christ' ads that are covering most of our Translink buses"!

"Ubiquitous" means, "existing or being everywhere, esp. at the same time; omnipresent - examples are 'ubiquitous fog'; 'ubiquitous little ants'.

And now ... near ubiquitous 'Consider Christ' ads!!

HALLELUJAH!!!"

An Omnipotent God who, in the words of this atheist, has now "near-omnipresent" ads on the transport system in Northern Ireland ...... it's a very refreshing thought!

Sharing Our Faith In Christ

While at Greenville, South Carolina, last week, Rev. Colin Mercer asked me to give a report on 'Consider Christ' to his new congregation.

I updated the Powerpoint presentation (well, Keynote - as it's on Mac!) and showed all 100+ slides at the mid-week Prayer Meeting in Greenville.

The message received a very enthusiastic welcome, reflected in both the prayer session and comments after the meeting.

Could this prove to be an excellent export from Ulster to USA? ... and to other places across the world as well?

A local football manager was travelling behind a bus with a 'Consider Christ' advert on it.

This impacted upon him; he then attended a Gospel Mission in his town and came to Christ.

Final Days of 'Consider Christ' Mission In Londonderry

"Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing," noted the hymnwriter. How accurate he is!

We have tried to harness the momentum generated by the province-wide 'Consider Christ' campaign by organising a two-week Gospel Mission in Londonderry. This commenced on Lord's Day, 4 October – the day our bus adverts were officially due to come to an end.

Those two weeks are now accelerating to their close.

Only two meetings left!

Tonight, I will be joined in the pulpit by two of the other organisers in the 'Doing Something More For God / Consider Christ' Campaign:

• Rev. Robert Ormerod, who has been the evangelist throughout the Gospel Mission, will again be preaching (several of his messages have already been uploaded to Sermon Audio – www.sermonaudio.com/ianbrown – others will be put onto this site in due course);

• Rev. David McLaughlin is coming along to testify. I have heard a brief outline of his testimony from his daughter; this has whetted my appetite to hear more of what the Lord has done in his life.

Many visitors have attended the mission, with numbers rising throughout this second week.

Please pray with us that the good seed being faithfully and passionately sown will yield an abundant harvest.

Is It Worth While?

"Is it worth while?" is the title of a mini-article I read today.

It came from a most unusual source.

Yesterday afternoon my wife was given a copy of a small 'Magazine,' published by the Londonderry Baptist Church in September 1951.

On page 2 this brief illustration is reprinted from 'The Messenger':

"It is said that in the mines of South Africa 400 tons of dirt must be removed to get one ounce of diamond.

If we win only one soul to Christ with all our efforts, will it not be worth while?

Each sinner is a diamond in the rough, even though we do have to move lots of dirt to get to him."

I applied this to our 'Consider Christ' Campaign – and rejoice that with at least 2 souls led to the Saviour as a direct result of the Campaign so far, it has been all worth while!

Regional Rally – Drumglass High School, Dungannon

Drumglass High School was a hive of activity on Friday night as more than 300 people flocked to a specially convened evangelistic meeting. The rally was organised as part of the Free Presbyterian Church's province-wide 'Consider Christ' Campaign.

The Church had already arranged for every home in Northern Ireland to receive gospel literature, and for eye-catching posters to be displayed on billboards and buses.

The Dungannon venue was one of eight, strategically located to cover as much of the province as possible.

The meeting was conducted by local coordinator Rev Geoffrey Abraham (Aughnacloy), who extended a warm welcome to those gathered in the packed assembly hall. Also participating were Rev Paul Fitton (Dungannon), Rev Timothy Nelson (Sixmilecross), Rev Ian Brown (Londonderry) and soloist Mr Mark Clements (Magherafelt).

The special speaker at the rally was Rev John Morrow (Omagh). Mr Morrow reminded the audience that this year was the 150th anniversary of the great Ulster revival, and he affirmed that his message was the same as that so wonderfully used in 1859. Basing his remarks around the question, "What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ?" (Matthew 27:22), Mr Morrow urged his hearers to consider their own relationship with God, and to be reconciled with Him through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Rev Abraham concluded the proceedings by thanking all who attended, making particular mention of the participants and of those who had worked hard behind the scenes to ensure the success of the meeting. He encouraged everyone to support follow-up events in their local congregations.

On The Buses

I received some photos from Jeff Smyth (CBS Outdoor Advertising) today, showing our posters on buses.

It is exciting to see that the message, 'Consider Christ' is still making its way round our province by means of the transport system.

A Translink worker in Londonderry sent a couple of prints of photos he had taken of buses bearing our logo that were in his bus depot. We gratefully acknowledge receipt of these.

Many thanks also to those who, camera at the ready, have taken photos of buses (or sent a message through identifying the locations where they spotted 'Consider Christ' buses) over the course of the last two weeks.

1500+ 'Consider Christ' Invites to Primary Schools

A programme of visitation of Primary Schools in Londonderry was commenced on Thursday past and completed today. The purpose was to give out invitations to our 'Consider Christ' Bible Club (5-9 October) and our 'Consider Christ' Gospel Mission (4-18 October).

In total, 1500+ invitation cards were given out in 7 Primary Schools.

This is an excellent means of reaching many of the children of Primary School age in our city – and a means of contacting their parents.

Much thanks is due to the office and teaching staff of the Schools that received the invitations (and to those who posed for photos with me! - including Marilyn McCarter, pictured above). They gave me an enthusiastic welcome and have helped immensely in distributing our literature.

Regional Rally – Newry High School

On Friday night (2 October 2009) a large crowd of over 350 people gathered at the ‘Consider Christ’ Gospel Rally in Newry High School.

The event was one of four on the same evening across the province.

One of the co-ordinators Rev David Smith (Ardaragh) explained the background and purpose of the rally:

“The denomination has funded a distribution campaign into every home in Northern Ireland of some 750,000 gospel tracts, a poster campaign involving billboards and buses and eight regional rallies. The funding has come from the generous giving of the congregations who have been enthusiastic in their support and firms such as Vision Solutions in Belfast who have given of their experience and time. Also Every Home Crusade printed the tracts without charge as part of their vision to place gospel literature into every home.”

He added, “The purpose of this rally is to present the gospel message and give direction as to how a person may know God and the salvation of their soul.”

The meeting on Friday night was led by Rev William McDermott (Moneyslane), Rev James Porter (Markethill) opened in prayer. Rev David McMillan (Mullaglass) sang three solos. Mr Noel Shields (Mourne) read the scriptures from Luke chapter 19.

Rev Ian Harris then addressed the meeting. He took as his text the words of Pilate, “What shall I do with Jesus, which is called Christ.” He commented that while Pilate had ample opportunity to consider Christ, the time came when he must choose what to do with the Lord. Sadly, Pilate decided to hand him over to be crucified. Mr Harris went on to remind the gathered audience they too had a choice to make, they must reject Christ or accept Him. He urged any in the meeting who were not yet saved to realise the importance of having their sins forgiven and come to know Christ as their Saviour.

The meeting was concluded in prayer by Rev Raymond McLernon (Tullyvallen).

Mr Smith wishes to thank all those who attended the meeting, the Principal and board of Governors for the use of Newry High School and the caretaking staff for their help in holding this special service.

Regional Rally – Ballymena

On Friday 2 October 2009, over 500 people gathered at the ‘Consider Christ’ rally at Ballymena North Business and Recreation Centre. The meeting was held in conjunction with other rallies in Dungannon, Lisburn and Newry.

The Rev Robert Ormerod (Cloughmills FPC) led the meeting and opened in prayer. A group of young men from the Ballymena congregation sang two pieces and the Rev John Greer, the minister of Ballymena FPC, brought the closing word. He spoke on Zacchaeus (Luke 19) and noted the saving experience of Zacchaeus could be summed up in 4 steps:

1. A desire – v3 – ‘and he sought to see Jesus.’

2. A determination – v4 - ‘And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.’

3. A decision – v6 – ‘And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.’

4. A declaration – v9 – ‘This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.’

A word of thanks to all that helped in every way - Joseph Kennaway (piano), Joseph Greer (sound) and all the stewards and car-park attendants – it was greatly appreciated by all.

Some Billboards Are Still In Place!

Our deal with the advertising company, JC Decaux, for 35 billboards in various locations across the province (we had a further 8 x billboards with CBS Outdoor in the greater Belfast region) began on 7 September and ran to 21 September.

However, some have survived into an additional 2 x week cycle. I have been informed that the billboard @ Chapel Hill in Lisburn is still on display; I have just photographed the billboard @ Garden City, Londonderry.

Both of these are in key locations.

The interesting detail about the Londonderry billboard is that, when its 2 x week cycle expired, the other 2 companies who were advertising on this prismatic board were replaced with fresh adverts; only the 'Consider Christ' board was permitted to remain!

We view this as providential and rejoice that the Good News of Christ's Gospel is still being proclaimed to the hundreds of motorists/pedestrians who pass these locations each day.

Regional Rally – Lisburn LeisurePlex

About 500 people attended the Lisburn ‘Consider Christ’ gospel rally in Lagan Valley LeisurePlex on Friday evening, 2nd October.

The rallies, arranged by the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster as one of the stages in the ‘Consider Christ’ campaign, were also held in Belfast, Londonderry, Armagh, Enniskillen, Ballymena, Dungannon and Newry.

They are designed to encourage people who are living in a world without direction, certainty and hope to, ‘Consider Christ’.

The Rev Gordon Dane (Crossgar) led the Lisburn rally and the preacher was the Rev Trevor Baxter (Ballynahinch. Rev Thomas Martin (Lisburn), Rev Cairin Salt (Aghalee) and the Rev Dr Fred Greenfield (Dunmurry) also took part.

Linda Douglas (Lisburn) and Patricia Hamilton (Dromore) presided at the keyboards and led the hearty gospel praise, which included, ‘Would you be free from your burden and sin’ and ‘Sinner how thy heart is troubled’.

Dr Greenfield sang, ‘He was wounded for our transgressions’ and ‘The Prodigal’ and local gospel singers Kingdom Heirs sang, ‘At the cross’ and ‘There rose a Lamb’.

Basing his text on, “For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36), the Rev Baxter spoke of - a word to make you think; a warning to make you tremble and a wonder to make you thankful.

Regional Rally – Devenish College, Enniskillen

On Friday 25th September 2009 the "Consider Christ" regional rally was held in Devenish College in Enniskillen. The Free Presbyterian Churches in Enniskillen, Kesh, Kilskeery, Fivemiletown (Clogher Valley) and Castlederg joined together to hold the rally.

During the fortnight before the rally the congregations of the local congregations gave out thousands of personal invitations which were supported by adverts in the local press and the main "Consider Christ" campaign.

A large gathering of just under 300 people, including many young people, attended the Enniskillen rally which was led by Dr Lindsay Wilson, Minister of the Castlederg congregation.

Rev Raymond Robinson, (Kesh) opened rally in prayer. Following a message in song by Mr Leigh Davis, Rev Peter McIntyre (Clogher Valley) gave a report on the Free Presbyterian outreach to the Irish National Ploughing Championship which had just ended the previous day in County Kildare (south of Dublin). Rev McIntyre was pleased to report that seven souls were gloriously saved.

Rev John Gray then preached a powerful message in the Gospel and we pray that even when the voice of man is silent this Word from the Lord will speak on to men and women.

'Consider Christ' Trailer Advert in Tandragee

Due to the fact that the church building in Tandragee is set back from the main thoroughfare, the minister of the congregation, Rev. Samuel Murray, enquired if it would be possible to receive a smaller 'billboard-style' poster instead of the banners that were being supplied to churches. His idea was to have a trailer built to carry this sign – giving him a portable means of advertising that would permit him to display the message at a good location in the town.

Vision Solutions NI scaled the large 48-sheet billboards down to 8' x 4', a member of the Tandragee church made the trailer – and the result appears in the photograph above.

Currently this excellent sign is positioned by the side of the main Tandragee/Portadown road, in the line of vision of hundreds of motorists each day.

Regional Rally – Grove Wellbeing Centre, Belfast

Approximately 450 people converged just outside Belfast city centre for the 'Consider Christ' regional rally in the Grove Wellbeing Centre on York Road.

Representatives from fifteen Free Presbyterian congregations stretching from Portavogie in the east to Carrickfergus in the north and including churches in the Greater Belfast area were present at this rally.

The meeting took the form of an old fashioned gospel service. The programme of events were as follows:

• Rev. Alan Smiley (Ballygowan) led the community singing.

• Rev. David McLaughlin (Carryduff) led the service and testified of the miraculous power of the grace of God in his life.

• Dr. I R K Paisley (Martyrs Memorial) offered the opening prayer.

• The soloist was Mrs. Helen McGill, and Mr. Jeff Hammond played the organ.

• The scripture reading was by the Rev. Brian McClung from Newtownabbey.

• The preacher on this occasion was Rev. Thomas Murray preached a heart-warming message based on John 14:6 – the motto text of the Gospel Advertising Campaign.

• Closing prayer was by the Rev. David Priestley (Bangor).

The Lord’s presence was experienced; continue to pray that the spirit of God will work in the hearts and lives of the many unsaved that attended on the night and that the Lord of the harvest will gather in the souls of the lost.

A Willing Band Of Helpers!

It's all systems go at Mount Merrion FPC at the moment!

In tandem with their Family Conference (just finished last night, 28 September 2009), a large quantity of the second tract prepared for the 'Consider Christ' Campaign was distributed in the area surrounding their church in Mount Merrion, Belfast.

This work would not have been possible without individual involvement – some to place church invitations within the tracts, and others to deliver them to people in the community.

The pictures that illustrate this article clearly demonstrate that Rev. Paul Thompson has found in his family a willing band of helpers for this project!

May the Lord bless the efforts of His servants to the reaching of many souls in their area.

Two Thirds of Necessary Finance Now Received

Regional Rally – Lisneal College, Londonderry

250+ people converged on the location for the most northernly venue for the 'Consider Christ' Regional Rallies tonight – Lisneal College in Londonderry.

Eight congregations that are a considerable distance apart were channelled into this Rally ... Bushmills, Coleraine, Convoy, Garvagh, Limavady, Magherafelt, Mulvin and Londonderry.

The meeting took the form of an old-fashioned Gospel Meeting. The programme of events featured:

Leading / Soloist: Rev. William McCrea (Magherafelt);

Opening Prayer: Rev. Andrew Patterson (Garvagh);

Testimony: Rev. Maurice Baxter (Mulvin);

Message: Rev. Ian Brown (Londonderry).

The Lord's presence was manifest among us and we continue to pray that as we 'cast our bread upon the waters,' much fruit will return to the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Buses Are Beginning To Roll

To add to the 'Consider Christ' buses that have been seen in Belfast, reports are coming in of sightings in Londonderry, Newtownabbey, Newtownards and Coleraine.

In fact, as I knocked doors as part of a 20-strong Outreach Team in Londonderry last night, a man jumped out of his car and came striding across the road towards his house. When he recognised the symbol on the literature I was giving out, he said that he had seen "three or four of those on buses today."

It turned out that he worked in Coleraine, had noticed the buses there, and went on to comment that someone in his office thinks the campaign is "great."

The ministers who will be attending the 'Consider Christ' Regional Rally in Enniskillen this weekend contacted the local press to make the public aware of the Campaign meeting.

The 'Impartial Reporter' sent along a photographer and composed an article based on information the ministers provided to the paper.

The current Campaign presents us with a golden opportunity to contact the press and obtain good positive coverage – and, more especially, to proclaim the glorious message of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to the people of our local villages, towns and cities.

Now You See It ..... Billboard Campaign Ending

It will be very sad to see our billboards come down across the country.

Today is officially the last day for them to be on public display, however, given the fact that some of them appeared on Monday 7 September, and others were put up on later days of the same week, we will get the full value of our two-week advertising cycle.

On the way to the Scripture Union at Wellington College today, I detoured into Short Strand and took a photo of the 'Consider Christ' billboard at the entrance to this housing estate.

Just as well I took the picture then!

One hour later, with the meeting in Wellington College over, I drove past the same spot at Short Strand – only to discover that a new poster had been pasted over the top of ours.

Like I said, it's sad to see them disappearing ....... .

Some members of the 'Consider Christ' sub-committee were privileged to speak to the Scripture Union @ Wellington College, Belfast, this afternoon.

This meeting had been organised by Miriam McLaughlin (daughter of Rev. David McLaughlin, Carryduff). She eagerly rallied support for the cause, putting up special posters to advertise the meeting, and encouraging her friends to attend.

A Powerpoint Presentation of the Campaign was shown; after which a number of questions were answered. Approximately 30 were present.

It's an honour to be able to take the news of our Campaign to young people. We pray that our Lord will fire them with enthusiasm to, "Do something more for God."

'Consider Christ' Featured in the 'Good News'

'Good News' is the name of the newsheet published by the Revival Movement Association.

In the September 2009 edition of this leaflet, our 'Consider Christ' Campaign receives prominent coverage.

Several photographs of the production of our first tract are carried, in addition to an accompanying article that reads:

During the month of September the Free Presbyterian Church have arranged to hold a major Evangelistic campaign in Northern Ireland entitled 'Consider Christ.' They will be using various advertising means to conduct the campaign.

Part of the campaign is to place a Gospel Leaflet into Every Home, so we agreed to print and freely supply these leaflets for this Outreach programme. The Post Office required 741,000 copies for their delivery to each home.

This required us to print 13 reels of paper, each weighing 750 kgs – with a piece of new equipment we were able to print the reels in colour on both sides of the sheet.

Our delivery date was suddenly brought forward which meant all the leaflets had to be folded, packed and labelled in just a few days. This meant that we had teams working for two nights in order to complete the work.

Please pray for this major outreach – that many souls will be brought to the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour.

We are expecting to take delivery of 120 tonnes of paper costing over £60,000.00. Please continue to pray regarding all the financial needs of the ministry and that literature will continue to be a blessing.

The First Photos of 'Consider Christ' Bus Adverts!

Rev. Brian McClung, minister of Newtownabbey FPC, has sent me the first photos of the 'Consider Christ' adverts on buses.

He tells me that, "Some have been on since Thursday."

This is excellent, as the bus ads were not due to appear until Monday, 21 September.

The BIG question is .....

..... though they are booked for a 2 x week advertising cycle, how long after that will we still be able to spot some bus ads??!!
